Dannenröder Wald forest occupation: Reaction to the appeal to leave the forest

Dannenrod. Activists in the Dannenrod forest ignore the DEGES’ appeal to end the occupation. The DEGES plans to create facts by clearing the forest from October 1. They are doing so although the social conflict over the A49 has not yet been resolved. In addition, according to current construction laws, the construction of the Autobahn is not feasible, as the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig has confirmed. Proof of public interest in the motorway is also hypocritical. Neither can it be said with certainty whether there will be any relief for the residents living along the federal roads, nor has a survey of residents been conducted.

Dannenrod. Aktivist*innen im Dannenröder Wald lassen den Appell der DEGES, die Besetzung zu beenden, links liegen. Die DEGES plant mit der Rodung des Waldes ab dem 1. Oktober Fakten zu schaffen. Dies tun sie, obwohl der gesellschaftliche Konflikt um die A49 noch nicht gelöst ist. Hinzu kommt, dass nach heutigem Baurecht der Bau der Autobahn nicht realisierbar ist, wie auch das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig bestätigt hat. Auch der Nachweis des öffentlichen Interesses an der Autobahn ist scheinheilig. Weder kann mit Sicherheit gesagt werden, ob es zu einer Entlastung der Anwohner*innen an den Bundesstraßen kommt, noch wurde eine Bürger*innenbefragung durchgeführt. Gesichert hingegen ist, dass durch den Bau der A49 Trinkwasser in große Gefahr gebracht und ein unersetzlicher Naturraum zerstört wird.

Pressemitteilung Dannenröder Waldbesetzung 24.06. (Statement zum gestrigen Gerichtsurteil)

Leipzig. Gestern, am 23.06.2020 hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht
(BverWG) über die Klage des BUND gegen den Ausbaus der A49 und damit
einhergehend über die Zerstörung weiter Teile des Dannenröder Waldes
verhandelt.
In Anbetracht des 1,5°C Klimaziels und der dafür notwendigen drastischen
CO2 Emissionsreduktionen ist es ein Skandal, dass in Deutschland weitere
Autobahnen gebaut werden.
Um auf die verheerenden Folgen für Klima, Wasser und Wald durch die
potentielle Autobahn aufmerksam zu machen, wurde am Wochenende vom
19.-21.06. bereits an 11 Orten1 demonstriert. Die Dannenröder
Waldbestzung hatte im Vorfeld zu diesem Protest aufgerufen. Zahlreiche
Fridays for Future-, sowie Extinction Rebellion, Greenpeace und
Klimagruppen haben sich mit der Besetzung und dem Kampf für eine
sozial-ökologische Verkehswende solidarisiert.
Es gab mehrere Fahrrad-Demos, Solidaritätsbekundungen mit Bannern, teils
auf Autobahnbrücken, teils auf Bäumen, sowie einen mit vertrockneten
Bäumen gestalteten Infostand. Darüber hinaus wurde mit einer
mehrstündigen Blockade der hessischen Landeszentrale der Partei Bündnis
90/Die Grünen und des hessischen Verkehrsministeriums auf die
klimapolitischen Missstände aufmerksam gemacht und der Versuch
unternommen mit dem Verkehrsministerium in Kontakt zu treten.

From 19.06.  there is be an legal aid structure for the Dannenröder forest. It will offer legal advice and help in case of repressions during the action days for everyone.

Turnaround in traffic now!
No new highways!

How?
Actions according to the preferred action line

When? June 19th-21st.

Where?
Decentrally where you live; on roads, bridges & crossings; at the ministries of transport and online.

What for?
For the stop of motorway-extension and a CO2-neutral and social traffic turnaround

Why?

In Leipzig, on June 23rd, a hearing about the destruction of large parts of the Dannenröder forest is going to take place in the Federal Administrative Court of Germany. The forest is to be destroyed for a highway that has long before its construction become obsolete.

On the one hand, the German Government is presenting itself as a pioneer on climate protection.
On the other hand, the climate crisis is being further fuelled for the interests of industries.

In the midst of this time of extreme droughts, a healthy, centuries-old forest is to be destroyed for the A49. This will cut through a drinking water protection area that supplies around 500,000 people with water. There seems to be no room for alternative mobility concepts in the blinkers of current politics. In addition to the A-49, the highways A14 and A-143 will also be built. The sanctity of the car seems to be untouchable.

We want to stand united against this destruction. The clearing was delayed due to the forest occupation that startet last autumn and the untiring work of local communities. Now it is necessary to stand up with various actions all over Germany for the preservation of the Dannenröder forest and a traffic turnaround.

Let us show the responsibles in the ministries of Hessen and Germany what we think of their fossil transport policy.

Become active, on the trees, on the roads and on the internet.

Climate justice is manual work!

Natural spaces instead of concrete spaces! +++ Nationwide action days to save the Dannenröder Forest from 19-21.06.2020 +++ Turnaround in traffic now!

Dannenrod. On 23.06.2020, the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig will hear the complaint of the BUND about the extension of the A49 and thus the destruction of the Dannenröder Forest. The occupation of the Dannenröder Forest has taken this as an opportunity to call for action days nationwide. Under the motto „natural spaces instead of concrete dreams“, a variety of protests will take place in several German cities.

The planned A49, which will run south from Kassel with a connection to the A5, endangers both the Dannenröder Forest and the nearby Herrenwald. Both forests are protected flora-fauna habitats with rare animal species. In addition, the Dannenröder Forest is a drinking water protection area, which also functions as a water reservoir for the Rhine-Main area and supplies more than 500,000 people with water. The so-called „compensation measures“ envisaged by those responsible do not even begin to compensate for the damage that deforestation would cause.

In the midst of a time when the effects of climate change are already being felt for example in the form of years of drought, the construction of a motorway across a water protection area is fatal and the deforestation of a completely healthy mixed forest is bizarre. In order to initiate a real traffic turnaround, it is absurd to cling to outdated planning dinosaurs such as the A49 instead of working on alternatives that are compatible with nature and society. „We have to deal with what a real traffic turnaround could look like. One thing is clear; it is high time to take radical action to tackle climate change, ensure access to water for all and create fair mobility. This will require fewer motorways and more forests,“ said one person from the occupation.

Naturräume statt Betonräume! +++ Bundesweite Aktionstage zur Rettung des Dannenröder Waldes vom 19.-21.06.2020 +++ Verkehrswende Jetzt!

Dannenrod. Am 23.06.2020 verhandelt das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig über die Klage des BUND über den Ausbau der A49 und damit über die Zerstörung des Dannenröder Waldes. Die Besetzung im Dannenröder Wald hat dies zum Anlass genommen, um bundesweit zu Aktionstagen aufzurufen. Unter dem Motto „Naturräume statt Betonträume“ werden in mehreren deutschen Städten vielfältige Proteste stattfinden.

Die geplante A49, die von Kassel nach Süden mit Anschluss an die A5 verlaufen soll, gefährdet sowohl den Dannenröder Forst als auch den nahegelegenen Herrenwald. Bei beiden Wäldern handelt es sich um geschützte Flora-Fauna-Habitate mit selten geworden Tierarten. Außerdem befindet sich im Dannenröder Wald ein Trinkwasserschutzgebiet, das auch als Wasserreservoir für das Rhein-Main-Gebiet fungiert und mehr als 500.000 Menschen mit Wasser versorgt. Die sogenannten „Ausgleichsmaßnahmen“, die von den Verantwortlichen vorgesehen sind, kommen nicht einmal ansatzweise für die Schäden auf, die eine Abholzung der Wälder mit sich führen würde.

Inmitten einer Zeit, in der die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels in Form von Dürrejahren bereits spürbar werden, ist der Bau einer Autobahn quer durch ein Wasserschutzgebiet fatal und die Abholzung eines völlig gesunden Mischwaldes bizarr. Um eine echte Verkehrswende einzuleiten, ist es widersinnig, an veralteten Planungsdinosauriern wie die A49 festzuhalten, anstatt an natur- und sozialgerechten Alternativen zu arbeiten. „Wir müssen uns damit auseinandersetzen, wie eine echte Verkehrswende aussehen kann. Eins ist klar; es ist höchste Zeit, radikal zu handeln, um dem Klimawandel zu begegnen, allen Menschen Zugang zu Wasser zu gewährleisten und eine gerechte Mobilität zu erschaffen. Dafür braucht es weniger Autobahnen und mehr Wälder“, so ein Mensch aus der Besetzung.

Wofür? Für den Autobahnausbaustopp und die Verkehrswende (CO2-neutral & sozial)

Warum?
In Leipzig verhandelt das Bundesverwaltungsgericht am 23.06. über die Zerstörung weiter Teile des Dannenröder Waldes. Er soll einer längst nicht mehr zeitgemäßen Autobahn weichen.

Auf der einen Seite gibt sich die Bundesregierung als selbsternannter Vorreiter in Sachen Klimaschutz.

Auf der anderen Seite wird für die Interessen der Industrie die Klimakrise weiter befeuert.

Inmitten dieser Phase von immer mehr extremen Dürren soll ein gesunder, jahrhundertealter Mischwald für die A49 zerstört werden. Dabei wird ein Wasserschutzgebiet durchschnitten, das 500.000 Menschen mit Trinkwasser versorgt. In den Scheuklappen der aktuellen Politik scheint es keinen Platz für alternative Mobilitätskonzepte zu geben. Zusätzlich zu die A-49 werden noch die A14 und die A-143 gebaut. Die Heiligkeit des Autos scheint unantastbar.

Dieser Zerstörung wollen wir uns geschlossen entgegen stellen.

Durch die Besetzung der Bäume seit dem letzten Herbst und die unermüdliche Arbeit der lokalen Schutzgemeinschaften wurde die Rodung herausgezögert. Nun gilt es, deutschlandweit mit vielfältigen Aktionen für den Erhalt des Dannenröder Waldes und für eine Verkehrswende einzustehen.

Lasst uns den Verantwortlichen in den Ministerien von Hessen und Deutschland zeigen, was wir von ihrer fossilen Verkehrspolitik halten.

Werdet aktiv, auf den Bäumen, den Straßen und im Netz.
